Police operatives attached to Kano state command on Operation Puff Adder” have busted an armed robbery syndicate at Rano, killing one member of the vicious gang in a gun battle.

The gang was said to be part of the criminal groups terrorising communities around Rano, Bunkure, Kibiya and Tudun Wada along Falgore Forest.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed this in a statement, said a locally-made-pistol and three rounds of live-cartridges have been recovered from the suspects.

He said one of the suspects was gunned down as three others escaped to the nearby forest after a heavy gun battle with the police operatives.

Kiyawa said the incident occurred on Friday around 3:40am when the said gang attacked a residence in Rano town.

“Today 26th July, 2019 at about 0340hrs, a Team of Policemen of Operation Puff-Adder attached to Police Area Command Rano were alerted that a gang of four (4) armed men attacked a residence in Rano Town.

“The Team immediately rushed to the scene where they engaged the armed robbers in a gun duel. Luck ran against the hoodlums when the Puff-Adder Operatives with superior gun power gunned down one of them, while the remaining three escaped into the nearby thick forest.

“As they were retreating they abandoned a locally made Pistol with three rounds of live Cartridges,” he said.

Kiyawa said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu had already ordered that the fleeing suspects be tracked down and arrested and any arms in their possession be recovered.

He therefore, call on good people of the state to always cooperate with the Police by sharing vital information and intelligence on any form of crime for quick and timely response.
